Two-Day Refresher Course on PHARMA AND SPECIALITY CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

Under the auspices of the Technology & Energy Expert Committee, ICC is organizing a Two-day Refresher Course on "PHARMA AND SPECIALITY CHEMICAL INDUSTRY" on 1 & 2 September 2017. The venue of the Refresher Course is Centrum, 1st Floor, Centre+1, World Trade Centre, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai + 400 005.

INTRODUCTION
Indian chemical industry currently accounts for 2.77% of the world chemical market.  It is the seventh largest producer worldwide and third largest in Asia (by output). It is the fourth largest global producer of agrochemicals.  Total production of major chemicals including petrochemicals; 23.9 million tonnes in 2015-16; production of polymers; 9 million tonnes in 2015-16. Indian chemical industry accounts for 15% of the world production of dyestuff and dye intermediates.

Speciality Chemical Sector
Government of India has started a proactive approach to create an environment for growth and prosperity. For this purpose, various program have been undertaken by the Government which includes Make in India, Digital India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Smart Cities missions. Rise in purchasing power generated huge growth potential in the domestic market and focus is now new segments such as Speciality and Knowledge Chemicals. India has large skilled professionals with requisite technical knowledge and also strong R&D facilities. Government is also continuously contracting the list of reserved items for production of small scale sector there by facilitating greater investments in technology up-gradation and modernization. All these initiatives have created investments friendly climate and speciality sector which includes agro chemicals, Flavours& Fragrance Ingredients, Dyes & Pigments, Personal Care active ingredients, water chemicals, construction chemicals, Surfactants, Textile Chemicals and Polymer additives, Paints & coating chemicals  industry etc. is now poised for rapid growth. This segment cumulatively constitute a market of about 19.0-20.0 billion USD in India and is expected to grow at 12% p.a. for the next few years.

Pharma Sector
Pharma sector accounts for about 2.4% of the global pharmaceutical industry in value terms and 10% in volume terms. India accounts for 20% of Global exports in generics. In FY 16, India exported pharmaceutical products worth USD 16.89 billion, with the number expected to reach USD 40 billion by 2020. The Indian Pharmaceutical industry is expected to expand at a CAGR of 12.89 % over 2015-20 to reach a revenue of USD 55 billion in 2020. Indian healthcare sector, one of the fastest growing sectors, is expected to advance at a CAGR of 17% to reach USD 250 billion over 2008-20. The generics market stood at USD 26.2 billion in 2016 from USD 21 billion in 2015. India's generic market has immense potential for growth. Pharmaceutical sector in India attracted 5% of the total FDIs into India from April 2000 to March 2016. Cumulative FDI inflows worth USD 13.85 billion were made during April 2000 to March 2016. As per an N.S.D.S report issued in 209, the incremental human resource requirement is expected to be about 1.9 million persons by 2022, led by the requirement in the Pharmaceuticals manufacturing sector. 
 
Speciality and pharma industry are key players in the overall development of the chemical industry sector

OBJECTIVE
The objective of Refresher Course is to provide participants an opportunity to refresh and learn different aspects related to technical / unit operations and methods employed in Pharma &Specialty Chemical Industry. For instance the proposed lectures spread over 2 days will cover Distillations, Drying, Crystallizations, Membrane Separations & Chemical Processes related topics.

PROGRAM
Dr. VadirajEkkundi, Vice President - R&D, VVF (India) Limited and Dr. V. V. Mahajani, Member,Technology & Energy Expert Committee are the coordinators for the Refresher Course. Experts from Industry and academia will deliver lectures on various topics. Detailed program is attached herewith.

Refresher Course is recommended for entrepreneurs, professionals working in a technical function such as ex. Production, R&D, Projects etc. 

REGISTRATION FEES
To defray the expenses, the registration charges will be:

  • ICC Members:    Rs.  8,850/- per delegate (Rs. 7,500/- plus 18% GST)
  • Others:    Rs.11,800/- per delegate (Rs.10,000/- plus 18% GST)

CERTIFICATES will be presented to the delegate-participants
at the end of the 2-day Refresher Course.
