Shri R. D. Shroff is the Chairman & Managing Director of United Phosphorus Limited on 29th May, 1969 as a small scale unit at Vapi, Gujrat, for the manufacture of red Phosphorus for the first time in India. In recognition of his technological achievements in the manufacture of Red Phosphorus, the Govt. of India awarded the Company with the President's 'Gold Shield'.
Today United Phosphorus Limited has a global presence with its wide range of products. These include "Agrochemicals, Intermediate Chemicals and Specialty Chemicals". In India it has seven manufacturing units and is a signatory to Responsible Care Programme since beginning. It has taken many initiatives to improve the image of chemical industry. UPL has shown exceptional commitment and leadership in solving the problem of waste management. The company has promoted subsidiaries to tackle the problems of effluent and solid waste. It has been actively engaged in many a social / welfare programmes not only for customers and users of the product but also for the welfare of the community around by rendering the help in starting and running the facilities such as Hospital and School.
