INTRODUCTION
INDIAN CHEMICAL COUNCIL (ICC) is organizing a Two-day Refresher Course on "SEPARATION PROCESSES" on 21 - 22 November 2014. The venue of the Refresher Course is Blossom Hall, GRAND HOTEL, S. R. Marg, Ballard Estate, Mumbai - 400 001.
The topics are of great interest for Process and R&D Engineers. The course will focus on Reactive Separation, Membrane Separation, Distillation, Adsorption, etc. Reactive Separation is a powerful tool in the hands of Process Engineers to accomplish separation of desired component(s) in a very cost effective way. Theoretical aspects are proposed to be covered practical experiments to comprehend the same.
CO-COORDINATORS
Prof. V. V. Mahajani, Mr. Rajendra Chirwatkar and Mr. Shreedhar M. Chitanvis, Members of the Technology & Energy Expert Committee of ICC are Coordinators for the program.
PROGRAM
Prof. V. V. Mahajani will make presentation on "Reactive Separation covering Excursion to Basics and study on CO2 Absorber Process Design Simplified".
Dr. B. Chakravorty, Managing Director, Genesis Membrane Sepratech P. Ltd. will make presentation on "Membrane Processes with special reference to Liquid Liquid Separation" which will also cover basics of Membrane Filtration, Nano Filtration, Reverse Osmosis, Membrane types and their industrial applications. He will also inform the delegates about pilot trials and system design with couple of cases studies.
Mr. Namitesh Roychoudhary, Vice President- IEA & Capital Investment, Lanxess India Private Limited will make presentation on "Unit Operation viz. Adsorption : Functionalized Polymers"which includes basic theory of Adsorption, how to regenerate, aspects of Process Design illustrating this by Functionalized Polymers, their application in de-metallation of aqueous stream from toxic metal contaminants as well as case study on Copper Removal.
Dr. M. O. Garg, Director, Indian Institute of Petroleum has kindly agreed to participate in the Refresher Course sharing Fundamentals of Solvent Extraction, Application of Solvent Extraction in Oil Refining and Petrochemicals, Recovery of BTX from Reformate and Pyrolysis Gasoline and Recovery of Benzene from FCC Gasoline, etc. Recovery of Benzene is based on project carried out for Reliance Industries Ltd, Jamnagar recently. This will be a very good case study on how a lab data can be scaled up to be commercial unit which is done first time in the world.
Dr. M. O. Garg is an outstanding chemical engineer and has been an exemplary leader who believes in leading by example. Being a Gold medallist from Nagpur University, Dr. Garg is the first 10 pointer obtaining A grades in all courses in M. Tech from IIT Kanpur. A Ph.D from University of Melbourne, Dr. Garg has been the first in India to implement advanced process control and energy conservation using pinch technology and has made significant contributions in developing innovative and advanced application of simulation & modelling and data reconciliation. Known for his unique ability to take research projects from concept to commissioning, Dr. Garg is perhaps one of the very few in the world who can bring high science to the industry and pursue the same with extraordinary vision, initiative and continues perseverance, against all odds including severe international competition. Dr. Garg has been bestowed with several prestigious awards including the CSIR Shield for his commercialization efforts. Dr. Garg has been the author of 245 papers and has 33 national and international patents to his credit.
In recognition of his yeomen services to education & research, Indian Chemical Council will be presenting the ICC D.M.Trivedi Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to Indian Chemical Industry (Education & Research) for the year 2013 on Dr. M. O. Garg, during the Seminar.
Dr. Nilesh A. Mali of National Chemical Laboratory will make presentation on "Divided Wall Distillation Systems" which will cover Conceptual introduction, Current state of art, Column Hydraulics, Challenges in adopting this technology, Mathematical Modeling of Divided Wall Distillation Column.
Dr. P. D. Vaidya of Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT, Mumbai) will take session on "Experimental Determination of Equilibria".
